Mont Kiara Jazz Fest 2006
weeeeeeeeee........ my virgin attendance to the annual Jazz Fest in Mont Kiara tonight... 7th year already man... what took me so long +_+ but nevermind... better late than never hehe especially since next year am going to ozzie liaoz so this year must do alot of things that i've been wanting to do before i leave as i am preparing to the possibility of not settling down here after graduating (beware jie... i am coming :P).
anywayz... brought my family there - kinda like pestering and hinting for them to go hehe and dad actually agreed! I supposed it is his kinda thing but then again maybe he thought i would've gone anyway if he hadn't agreed to go - just that i'll have to go with friends instead :D So then off we go to Mont Kiara. Reached there about 8... still early, no need to fight for parking no need to fight for seats. So we managed to snag on very near the Jazz session stage... next to the middle round stage too where all the japanese were doing their jap-hop dances but can't see no shit cuz the spotlight shined straight at me. So, got a good seat but had to find food! supposed to go eat dinner first one.. but seeing we had a good table so had to CHuP the table. Ended up buying Delifrance and McD for dinner hahaha and Starbucks after that.
8.30 p.m.
This was the beginning of the whole night's program ler... tonight's opening performances was themed Hip Hop dance; which to me seems like jap-hop ler cuz, 1)the songs are all in japanese and 2) the dancers are mostly japanese (prob all of them ARE jap seeing their un-malaysian face). It was ALRIGHT ler, but my dad had alot of comments man... for someone who usually stays at home on weekends to see his fav Chinese talk show 'A Date with Lu Yu' or something like that... Well he said 'their dances are not bad... synchronised and all... sounds system is good, can hear... but like something still missing' O.o not bad for a critic eh? hahaha honestly i do agree with him.. and that something lacking is the energy - lacking mainly cuz the dancers are either VERY young or VERY NOT young +_+ u know like small kids they'll dance and all sync but then they can't culminate the essence of dancing YET... then there's another group which consist of err.... dancers slightly younger than my mom -__- honestly there's nothing wrong with that but i just find it so weird! and it's like u know they're not old but they're definitely not young either that's for sure.... and they were ALL dancing hip hop with the sporty jacket and fluffly red boa as costume +___________+ but then i have to admit they're damn sporting ler.... so thumbs up to them for that, tres bien!
9.15 p.m.
We actually can't wait for the Jazz sessions to start as my mom from the moment the clock hits 9 she keep saying 'Why still haven't finish one... supposed to start at 9 rite?'... or 'Why 9 already they still haven't played yet one?'.... keke so finally, albeit delayed, the first band for the night - 'GruvAvenue'! I only need to say it's AWESOME! then again i'm not much of a critic when it comes to Jazz (har har) so you may think otherwise... but it gets better! After a couple of songs performance the lead sax announce their guest vocal - Vanessa! Now let me tell you i knew Vanessa-the-hot-mama from KDU back when she was a staff there and let's just say i even went clubbing with her and all haha... meet potential guys (for her as i am in the shadow) dining at Ritz-Carlton in KL... it was great! i even call her mami cuz well even tho she's only 5 years older than me but she took care of me well ler back then.. after that when she left we sorta lost touch ler... plus i lost my phone so all the numbers are gone. Then when that guy announced her name i was like sErIous shiT! i got so excited i was babbling to my parents about her hahaha my parents then got excited too (especially cuz her dress slit was like WOHHhh). Such irony ler... i knew she was singing part-time for functions and all just didn't expect to see her there performing onstage.. guess the Jazz scene is pretty small la ya? hehehe
11 ++ p.m.
Around this time Amir Yusoff and friends appeared! Now this is one helluva combination that everybody must see at least once in their lifetime... Imagine this: smooth sound of Sting's 'Fragile'... Jazzy rite? now minus the standard drummer and bass (u're wondering where he gets the base?).. add another classical guitar (so there's two now)... add a sax... Sounds like Kenny G duet with Jose? Now add percussions into the sound - i'm not sure what they're all called but one is the typical drum u see in Hindi movies, the one sitting down one and u beat on top and sides one; another is atabaque lookalike - might be it, might not be it; then there's those small lil thingys of percussions (okay i need to revise my music instruments knowledge). To sum it up they're just not the usual combination la ya? I doubt they're gonna perform again during the fest but just watch out for Amir Yusoff's name.... quite renowned apparently, in the scene.
So yeah that about sums up the whole night's adventure - and also the fact that people from all walks of my life was there; friends from primary schools whom i've never seen for almost a decade, friends whom i've never seen for half a decade and also friends whom i just saw last week. Oh just to spice up the event, Lina Teoh and Joanna Bassey (is that how u spell her name?) was there for some charity event alongside the main activities for the night. But of course there must be a celebrity MC as well to host the night, and he is William Quah - or rather he called himself Will.
..
i have nothing to say about him actually... just one of the people i feel indifferent about..hmm...
wokays! need to sleep liaoz as tomorrow morning is dim sum day! can't afford to be sleepy when i'm showered with yummy porridge and variety of prawn-cum-pork dishes *stomach grumbles*
